Damp location rated recessed lights, unlike wet location lights, should not come into direct contact with water including rain, snow or sleet. The normal condensation one might find in a bathroom is the environment for which these fixtures are designed whereas, for example, a fixture in a shower would be exposed to direct contact with water. Damp location canisters may be located either indoors or outside and do not protect the fixture from moisture to the extent that wet location lights do. Other locations where damp location recessed lighting is commonly found include covered porches, under house eaves and carports.
